We finally got our last test results today and everything looks great! We are so thankful to have these results in and to move on to the next step which is weaning him off the immunosuppressants. Once we get him off that medication (which will take a month or two) he will get off most of the other medications and be able to eat normally again.
We will continue to go to clinic twice a week for bloodwork and will only do another bone marrow biopsy if something looks suspicious.
This year has been surreal so far— so much pain and suffering, so much joy and celebration. I am sure it will take years or maybe a lifetime to work through all of these emotions and process all that we have gone through. Although we are not certain what the rest of this journey will entail, we have so much to be thankful for. To see our baby go from being in pain and dying from cancer to the happy and healthy boy he is today is a miracle that we will never take for granted. We know that the relapse rate is still high and we won’t be able to relax totally until 2 years post transplant (May 2027), but we talk all the time about how amazing it is that we had such a scary diagnosis in January of this year and could have him in remission, through a bone marrow transplant, and cancer-free by the end of the year.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support of our family— you have lifted us up and kept us going at our very lowest.
