So many updates to give! First of all, we’re all still basking in the glow of the Carolina Hurricanes’ Stanley Cup win! Oliver is quite a big fan.
Will and I were able to switch off at his family’s beach trip and get individual attention with Ollie at home and time at the beach with the older two kids. Since he has a central line, he really can’t be in the sun for too long or super far away from UNC. He also can’t get wet, be inside with lots of people, or get sand near/in his central line. It’s difficult to find things for him to do in the summer with all those limitations.
Oliver was able to get his biopsy at clinic last Tuesday, June 23rd. His counts were up the slightest bit, but our oncologist wanted a biopsy to give us some information about Oliver’s marrow. The results are what we expected— there were not many cells in the marrow so we don’t have a lot of information. From what we gathered, there is still leukemia, it is patchy (as usual), and it hasn’t taken over the whole marrow yet (which we figured since he is still feeling well).
We also heard that we will get access to Luveltamab (the drug we have been waiting for from Sutro Biopharma). It will start shipping July 1 and we are scheduled to have Oliver’s first infusion on July 7th. We were planning to do the Luveltamab in conjunction with regular chemo, but it has only been approved as monotherapy. The plan right now is to do an outpatient infusion of Luveltamab, wait a few weeks, and get a biopsy to see what the result is. If the result looks good and he looks like he is in remission, we will do another round while we get ready for transplant. If he is not in remission after two rounds, we will do a mix of Luveltamab and traditional chemo.
We are thankful that Ollie is still feeling well, that we get access to this drug, and that we get to do this therapy out patient. Thank you for your prayers and for your help getting us access to this drug. We are praying that it puts him into a deep and lasting remission.
