Clinic today went smoothly. We were there for labs and to meet with our oncologist.

The good news is that the patient before Oliver has recovered her counts so we can move ahead with this dose and the plan will not be delayed. The bad news is that we have to continue with this plan and start chemo this week. It’s been pretty easy to imagine we are just here on vacation, but this week reality is sinking in and we are grieving what we know he will have to go through this week.

The hardest part of this process for us is seeing Ollie happy and acting like his normal self and knowing he’s going to feel bad after the chemo this week. Symptoms will be typical chemo symptoms— nausea/vomiting/decreased appetite. He will recover after a few days, but it’ll be a tough week.

Tuesday (tomorrow) Ollie will get a bone marrow biopsy to determine residual disease. We will not know the results for a few days and while it will be interesting to see what happens, it won’t change anything. We will still go ahead with the CART infusion no matter what.

Wednesday will be a PET/MRI and chemo.

Thursday will be a shorter day with just one chemo infusion.

Friday and Saturday will be about 6 hour infusions— not because the chemo takes that long but because it irritates the bladder and they have to push fluids before, during, and after the two types of chemo are given.

Please pray for:

  • a smooth week without complications

  • strength and endurance for all of us

  • Ollie’s symptoms- that they would be minimal and well-managed
