After a few very tough days, Oliver had a much better day today. He was happy and very energetic all day long. He woke me (Will) up at 4AM by pouncing repeatedly on my chest saying each time “Daddy wake up!”

He is having quite a lot of diarrhea secondary to (at least) the mucositis from chemo but also possibly from the antibiotics he is on and possibly from adenovirus, which is shedding in his stool right now. We are doing diapers changes more than once an hour so that is … a lot.

He continues to burn through red cells and platelets quickly and is getting at least a unit of each every day. This drives his blood pressure up due to the volumes going in, so then we have to give him Lasix so he can pee most of the volume back out. They expect things to really begin to improve in about a week and think today’s good day may not be representative of how the next week will go, though we certainly hope they’re being overly pessimistic.
