Oliver continues to go up and down throughout the day… this whole journey feels like a roller coaster in many ways. He has had very high fevers and some vomiting over the last couple days. However, the diarrhea has improved and last night he didn’t need any blood transfusions. This in combination with the fact that his ANC (absolute neutrophil count) is 0.1 instead of 0.0 is really good news. We are hopeful that this means engraftment is starting. Engraftment is when the donors cells settle and produce white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. Today, and throughout the week, he will get something called GCSF to help speed up the white count recovery. Engraftment often causes bone pain since the cells are reproducing in your marrow, so we will watch for that over the next few days. Otherwise, we are hopeful that things are starting to look up!
