Oliver’s pain has increased significantly over the last 48 hours. He is limping with severe bone pain, making it hard for him to sleep. His symptoms are exactly the same as when he was diagnosed a year ago. Even though we are waiting for confirmation from the biopsy today, we know his leukemia is back.

He has the pain of the cancer and the pain of his bone marrow biopsy (long needles put into the hip bones to extract the marrow). He is on pain meds and between that and sedation he’s been sleeping most of the day.

Unfortunately, he will be sedated again tomorrow for his central line placement. After surgery, he will be admitted to the hem/onc floor to make sure we can start chemo right away. His cancer is swift and takes over his body very quickly, so we all felt it best to get his treatment started and work on getting him better. We will hopefully be in the hospital only a week or so and do the rest of the chemo at home.

Please pray:

  1. This round of chemo would be effective in getting Oliver into remission.

  2. We would get to go home with the oral chemo drug after the in-patient stay (If you’ve been following along, we got denied that drug and had to fight to get it paid for in an out-patient setting. We have since changed insurance providers so that is not necessarily approved this time).

  3. We would manage his pain effectively and quickly.

I donated all my toys from last year to the children’s hospital. I have updated my Amazon wishlist if anyone would like to help entertain a two-year-old in the hospital this week or buy gift cards for the nurses. Our meal train also has some dates open for February. We are so thankful for the most generous community!
