Today is the day our donor donates her bone marrow to Oliver! We don’t know anything about her other than she is a 24 year old female. I was told no news is good news and so far we have no news on the donation status. She will donate her marrow in her local hospital today and then someone will fly the marrow here for Oliver’s transfusion tomorrow. Will you pray that everything goes smoothly for her donation today and the infusion tomorrow?
It’s incredibly emotional and overwhelming to think about how this woman is sacrificing and giving her bone marrow to save Oliver’s life. We don’t even know her name and yet she feels like part of our family…her DNA will now be part of Oliver. It’s a beautiful thing to be a recipient of the most selfless act of kindness I can imagine. We are hopeful that she will get to watch Oliver grow up and become part of our family, but we won’t be able to contact her officially for a year.. at which point I plan to start a go fund me to send her somewhere amazing!

Once the bone marrow gets here, they will send it to the lab to prepare the blood and adjust it since she is much bigger than Ollie and will likely take place late afternoon. We have been warned that the actual transplant is very anticlimactic and will just look like a bag of blood and will take about two hours to put through his central line.
Ollie is looking good and has a lot of energy for someone who has been through the past week. His last immunosuppressive medication is today and he will get odd fluids which will make sleeping and diaper changes easier.

Edit: As soon as I sent this update, our nurse called and said she normally doesn’t hear any news but she got confirmation that we have the donors blood and it will be here today! In order to donate, she had a bone marrow biopsy in both hips. 🙏🏻
